On 22nd July we launched our company and first book, ‘Aggi and the Mystic Boots’, at the wonderful independent book shop, Bookbugs and Dragon Tales, in Norwich. It was a fabulous event with people from so many different parts of the Norwich science/education scene.
There were speeches on the steps outside the shop from the Paramecium Press team: Harriet Jones, Rachel Cladingbowl and Kelly Edmunds, as well as the illustrator of ‘Aggi and the Mystic Boots’, Charli Vince. Charli went on to do a drawing of Aggi on the drawing wall in the book shop. Food included cup cakes with the company logo on them. Kelly Edmunds introduced Aggi’s Explorers Club which will engage children in a range of science activites throughout the year.
Rachel read the second book, Blake’s Small Adventure, which is currently being illustrated by Charli Vince. This book, for 3-5 year olds, will get its first public outing when its read by Leanne, proprietor of Bookbugs and Dragon Tales, under Dippy’s tale at Norwich Cathedral on 11th September. The book will be launched the week of the Science Festival.
Down in the basement of the shop, in a typically Norwich cellar, Owen Senior and Sean Turner demonstrated two computer games. These are amazing games which will support the books and help children understand what microbes can do and how they might interact with each other. The first game will be out at the Norwich Science Festival in October.
It was a wonderful event, it turned out to be a great networking opportunity for many there, as well as bringing together so many people who had played a part in the company coming together.
